My name is Dr. Jodie Liu and I am a certified member of the Spending Planner’s Institute in Queensland. From a young age, I’ve always had a passion for accounting (yes, you read correctly – I love accounting!).

It is my mission to empower individuals, couples, families, and small businesses to take control of their futures by teaching them how to understand and manage their finances. I have been working with budgets for 20 years, teaching for accounting 17 years, and have had some tough obstacles in life that required me to be creative with my knowledge and skills. I’m here to help people get through the tough times and go on to have a better life.

There is a range of reasons people can end up in financial trouble, from a lack of tools to know how to manage money efficiently to abusive relationships to life throwing a curve ball at you. No matter what the reason is, I am here to show you that nothing is impossible, even if it feels like it at the time.

I have seen too many cases of individuals and families drowning in debt who can’t navigate their way out, as well as many small business owners who are suffering from fraud or embezzlement because they put their full trust in the hands of an accountant or bookkeeper who has taken advantage of the owner’s lack of financial knowledge and awareness.

After finding myself in an abusive relationship, I ended up with $400,000 in debt and living in a women’s refuge. I learned first-hand about the impact of poor financial literacy in Australia. A lack of financial literacy is one of the leading reasons women stay in abusive relationships. I felt like one of the lucky ones because I had the financial knowledge and experience to know exactly what I needed to do to get my life back. I dug myself out of a financial nightmare, negotiated, worked, and within four years was completely debt free and able to start afresh.
